We are so pleased to announce Joel Diffenderfer as our new candidate for the position of elder here at Union Lake. Cliff and I believe that Joel meets the biblical qualifications to serve with us as a spiritual leader of the church (e.g., 1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:6-9).

It is our hope that when men are put forward to the church family to fill such a role it will not be a surprise, and we trust that is the case with Joel. The church has been enjoying the blessing of his teaching and leadership gifts for some time now. When we look for a man to serve as an elder of the church we are looking for a man that is able to benefit the church spiritually by his ability to explain the Scriptures to them and whose life has been markedly changed by those Scriptures. We believe that God has gifted us with such a man in Joel.

While we are also looking for men who desire this noble task, we are also looking for humble men that give themselves to serving God’s people without being preoccupied with the goal of formally being placed in the office. We have observed Joel’s dedication to serving the church family and could not be more pleased with God’s grace being ministered to many through him. We might also add that Misti is an exemplary help mate, joyfully serving with her husband in many areas of ministry (as you know). To God be the glory for giving the church this treasured couple.

We call upon you to pray and to examine him and verify for yourself whether he meets the high standard for leadership in Christ’s church. There will be ample opportunity to hear him minister the word (e.g., he is preaching in our new “Traveling through¬†Thessalonians” series this Sunday evening, January 29th). There will also be a time for the church to ask Joel questions about his qualifications and beliefs. Additionally, please feel free to submit any questions or information you want to share with Cliff and Jeff in person or in writing. This is a time for all of us to go through this blessed process together.

We count on your prayers,

Pastor Jeff
